In addition to GMK’s robust resume in the full range of renovation/upfit projects, we also have a demonstrable proficiency in landmark, historic building renovations. Approximately 50 percent or more of GMK’s overall portfolio of work has been on renovation projects, and we have completed multiple historic renovation projects and projects within existing historic districts throughout South Carolina. For example, GMK has completed numerous projects on the University of South Carolina campus within the historic Horseshoe and Gibbes Green Districts (Petigru College, LeConte College, Sims Dormitory, Preston College, and The Barringer House), as well as at other institutes of higher education (Allen University Chappelle Auditorium renovation; Voorhees College Booker T. Washington Building Renovations; Voorhees College Menafee Hall Renovation; Voorhees College Bedford Hall Renovation; Voorhees College Massachusetts Hall Renovation; and Benedict College Morgan Hall and Pratt Hall renovations).

Other notable projects include the Williamsburg County Courthouse renovations and renovations to buildings located on the South Carolina State House complex, the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion grounds, the South Carolina School of Medicine campus, and the Medical University of South Carolina campus. Our firm is further currently completing designs and construction for historic renovations to the Fairfield County Courthouse in Winnsboro, SC, Building B10 on the W.J.B. Dorn VA Medical Center campus, the Waverly - Good Samaritan Hospital on Allen University’s campus, the South Carolina Supreme Court Building, the Columbia Mills Building/SC State Museum, and the Booker T. Washington Building at Voorhees College.

This experience also showcases our proven track record securing approvals through the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and meeting all its design requirements. Likewise, GMK is well versed in preparing and presenting all documentation necessary to acquire state and local permitting and review approvals. Examples of GMK projects that have received formal recognition for excellence in historic preservation include:
