In order to meet growing needs for primary care in Aiken, SC, University Health Care System (UHS) based in Augusta, GA, opted to establish an approximately 7,500-sf, $2.7 million, emergency care and diagnostic center (or “prompt care”) facility on approximately 7.5 acres owned by the system on Silver Bluff Drive within the city.

In 2014, UHS retained GMK Associates to complete the design and construction of the facility using the design-build delivery method. The prompt care and diagnostic facility was designed so that a two-physician primary care practice could be added at a later date (also designed by GMK).

The new facility is a one-story brick structure designed in a manner consistent with the branding of other existing UHS facilities (via brick banding, window framing systems, glass materials, etc.). The interior finishes and construction are of the same quality and style as has been used for other UHS ambulatory outpatient facilities. A tower element is the signature feature of the building that identifies the building entranceway. A single slope metal roof is used behind a parapet to maintain a simple roof structure.

Construction of the facility was completed in November of 2015.
