Culture of Collaboration

GMK is built on a spirit of collaboration. We’re not just architects, engineers and interior designers. Nor are we simply construction management specialists or general contractors. Rather, we form a single-source team with a tremendously wide knowledge base, allowing each discipline to work to its highest and best use while serving as a resource to all the others. It creates an environment of synergy from experts in different arenas, all under one roof, where the possibilities really are endless.

Professional Development and Benefits

GMK believes in its people and invests heavily in their development and work/life benefits

For full-time and even 30+ hour part-time employees, GMK offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision and disability insurance; a 401(k) program; paid vacation, sick and annual holiday leave with year-to-year rollover flexibility; and more. The corporate headquarters offers free building gym amenities, as well as dry cleaning services, and adjacent, covered, free parking for all employees.

From CEUs to maintain professional licensing to LEED certification and more, GMK has a robust continuing education program for all employees. We believe there’s no better way to stay at the forefront of emerging industry trends or say thank you to our employees than to cover both the financial and time opportunity costs associated with professional growth and development. A few examples include: LEED certification, NCARB filing, professional registrations and memberships like AIA, attendance and travel costs associated with industry conferences, professional skills training, in-house lunch and learn series, and more.

The GMK professional team is associated with the following through individual employee licenses, accreditations, memberships, certifications or board member responsibilities:

American Institute of Architects; American College of Healthcare Architects; Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives; LEED; US Green Building Council and board member involvement with the SC Green Building Council; Carolinas Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development; ACG Building Commissioning Authorities; National Society of Professional Engineers; SC Society of Professional Engineers; National Fire Protection Association; American Society for Healthcare Engineering; American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers; ASHRAE’s Healthcare Facility Design Professional; SC, NC and GA General Contractors; International Interior Design Association; National Council for Interior Design Qualifications; LeadingAge and more.

Firm Events

GMK believes if you work hard, you should play hard. And we do. From sunset dinner cruises on Lake Murray and experiencing firsthand Christmas at the Biltmore to oyster roasts and annual company-wide golf tournaments, chili cook-offs and pot-luck holiday meals, GMK brings together employees and their families for outside-of-work camaraderie. Each GMK division hosts a quarterly Division Days event – including outings like bowling, river kayaking and after-hours drop-ins – and the firm hosts both an annual employee recognition luncheon, celebrating individual employee accomplishments and milestones for that year, and a holiday “state-of-the-firm” luncheon.
